Learning Global Perspectives
Here are some highlights of Global Learning activities throughout my time at Florida International University!
Adam Smith Center for Economic Freedom- “Leadership & Diplomacy"
Led by former Interim President Juan Guaidó, this program featured weekly seminars guided by her expertise as a senior leadership fellow. In these seminars we discussed the political and social situation in Venezuela. We talked about dictatorship in Latin America as well as the negative effects it has on the common population.Through these discussions, we explored the vital role of diplomacy and strategies for overcoming barriers on the path to becoming a foreign ambassador.
Korean Language & Culture Festival at FIU
I have taken all three levels Korean language throughout my three years here at FIU. Professor Sungmin Cho, the lead professor of Korean Language Studies, was the main organizer of the event and did an extraordinary job! It truly felt like we had all been transported to the beautiful country of South Korea, with its unique cuisine and vibrant culture. We were able to experience all of the beautiful aspects of Korean culture through amazing performances. Students competed in various categories such as singing, dance, cultural presentations and speech skits. There was trivia on Korean history, Korean geography, and of course Korean language. There was a special taekwondo demonstration by World Class Martial Arts and a dance perfomance by LYNX Dance Co.
HistoryMiami CultureFest305
I volunteered at HistoryMiami Museum’s eighth annual CultureFest 305, a vibrant folklife festival celebrating the heart and soul of Miami! The event highlighted South Florida’s rich cultural diversity, allowing me to connect with my community through a day filled with captivating performances and demonstrations by cultural groups proudly representing their nationalities and heritage. Highlights included a Greek folk dance by the St. Sophia Hellenic Dance Troupe, an Afro-Cuban dance demonstration by Sikan, Celtic folk music by Gaêlica, Japanese taiko drumming by Fushu Daiko, a Polynesian hula dance demonstration by Ohana Arts Studio, and Diwali music and dance traditions by Romeo Ragbir. Immersed in this cultural tapestry, I also conducted visitor surveys to capture their impressions and experiences of the festival.
